Paradise Found: A Weekend Escape to Victoria Beachcomber
Nestled along the sun-drenched northwest coast of Mauritius, the Victoria Beachcomber Resort & Spa is a sanctuary where time slows and the worries of everyday life simply dissolve. From the moment you step onto its powder-white shores, framed by swaying casuarina trees and the shimmering expanse of a crystal-clear lagoon, you know you've found something truly special. Our recent weekend escape here left us utterly enchanted — and already planning our return.
Arriving in Style: First Impressions
The drive from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport to the resort takes about an hour, and every kilometre felt like a gentle unwinding. Our driver, a cheerful local named Jean-Paul, pointed out sugar cane fields stretching to the horizon and small fishing villages where brightly painted pirogues bobbed in turquoise coves. By the time the resort's lush gardens appeared through the car window, we were already feeling a world away from the bustle of daily life.
The Rooms: Luxury Meets the Lagoon
We stayed in a Junior Suite with a direct lagoon view, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The room featured a king-sized bed draped in crisp white linen, a private terrace where you could sip your morning coffee to the sound of lapping waves, and a marble bathroom that made every shower feel like a spa ritual. The soft teal and cream colour palette echoed the sea outside, and thoughtful touches like locally crafted wooden décor and fresh tropical flowers made the space feel genuinely personal, not just luxurious.

Dining: A Feast for the Senses
Victoria Beachcomber's main restaurant, Latitude 20, is a genuine highlight. Breakfast each morning was a sumptuous affair — fresh tropical fruits, eggs cooked to order, flaky croissants, and a Mauritian spread that included dholl puri and achards. Dinner was an equally impressive occasion, with the menu showcasing the island's rich blend of Creole, Indian, and French influences. The grilled crayfish with lemongrass butter was the standout dish of our stay, accompanied by a well-curated list of South African and French wines.
Activities: Adventures on Land and Sea
The resort offers an impressive array of water and land activities, all included in the all-inclusive package. We spent our mornings snorkelling over the reef just metres from shore, marvelling at parrotfish, trumpet fish, and even a small reef shark that glided past without a care in the world. The hotel's catamaran took us on a sunset cruise that is quite simply one of the most beautiful things I have ever experienced. For those preferring to stay on terra firma, the resort's spa delivers exceptional Ayurvedic and Mauritian treatments using locally sourced oils and botanical ingredients.
Victoria Beachcomber is the sort of place that stays with you long after you've left. It manages the rare feat of being genuinely luxurious while still feeling relaxed and human in scale. The staff remember your name, the beach is never crowded, and sunsets from the terrace are the kind that make you reach for your camera and then put it down again, because some things really should just be lived. Whether it's your honeymoon, a milestone anniversary, or simply a long-overdue escape, this is a resort that will exceed every expectation.
